What is Samsung Mobile Fresh Films?

Samsung Mobile Fresh Films is the nation’s leading filmmaking program exclusively for teens. Each year, teens across the nation apply for a spot on one of nine all-teen film crews.

Teens work together over one week of summer break to create a 7-10 minute short film. The teen crews are responsible for every aspect of film production including casting, location scouting, shooting, editing, and creating the soundtrack. Each crew is assigned a genre film to produce: Uncommon Comedies, Big Life Drama or Action Hero. When the films are finished, they face off with other crews creating films in their genre for a Viewer’s Choice Award, voted for by an online audience of millions. The films are also viewed by a Jury Panel of esteemed industry professionals. These stars provide feedback to the emerging filmmakers.

The film that wins the Viewer’s Choice Award will premiere at the Samsung Fresh Films YOUTH FEST 2008, an event presented as part of the American Film Institute’s AFI FEST. The premiere will feature a day of youth filmmaking seminars, screenings, and celebration with industry professionals.

Samsung Mobile Fresh Films producers will submit top-achieving films to national and international film festivals. So far, half of the submitted Samsung Mobile Fresh Films shorts have competed in juried festivals and 10 in categories making them eligible for Academy Award™ consideration.

Samsung Mobile Fresh Films heads to our production cities with experienced instructors and the latest filmmaking technology. The program is FREE OF CHARGE to all participants. All the crew has to do is show up, work hard, and be creative to make a real, festival-quality short film in just seven days.
